My Thanksgiving Story

This testimony is from my brother in law, Late Mr. Varughese P Mathew, who has been in Dallas for long years with his loving family. He was an IT professional. He published this heart blowing testimony months before his demise on ( 02 Dec 2018) to join our Lord Jesus Christ.

Last year, after the thanksgiving dinner at a friend’s house he asked every one “What are you thankful for this thanksgiving?” While everyone talked about their blessings, I wanted to tell this story of amazing grace and mercy, but kept silent as I couldn’t speak well.

Also people ask me, ” How can you be happy and smiling, irrespective of your physical challenges?” Usually, I reply in short as I can’t speak well.
This is an attempt to share the source of my happiness and peace and to give glory to my savior Jesus Christ.

My Story
In Feb 2015, I went for a heart surgery in a top hospital in Dallas. On the 4th day when I was about to be discharged, I was dropped dead in my hospital room after a sudden heart failure- called tachycardia. Jesus in His grace answered my wife’s prayers and doctors were able to revive me after five minutes by giving me shocks and CPR.
I always thought that I would get a chance to confess my sins and get right with Jesus before my death, but since this happened quickly, all I felt was a sudden cold chill in my chest ,spreading rapidly to my head and in few seconds it was all over. I didn’t even realize what was going on.

So if you are like me, thinking you have time, i would like to warn you that it’s not wise to wait. As the Bible says ” Seek the Lord while you can find Him”. There is no guarantee that you will get another chance.

After this, I was so scared to close my eyes and sleep for two days, despite getting strong sedatives, because I wasn’t sure I’d open them ever again if I closed my eyes. fear of death had gripped me. I was gripping my wife’s hand for reassurance.
I lost all my mental and physical strength too. After the surgery I had started walking but now I didn’t even have the strength to get up and sit. The situation was out of my control as my mind refused to calm down and rest.

Amazing Grace and Mercy

When I finally realized I couldn’t do much , I prayed and surrendered my body and soul to Jesus. I felt His presence and I felt like a heavy load was lifted off my chest. I was so at peace and full of love. Jesus promised me , “My grace is sufficient for you”. After that I slept like a baby. Next day morning God gave me strength to take few steps and then to walk.

In few months my heart started recovering and started functioning normally. Then I was diagnosed with a progressive neuro-muscular disease for which there is no treatment yet. As I started losing my arm strength and speech I started worrying a lot about my future. I reached a dead end in life with no visible path ahead.

There was no solution to my problem, I submitted it to Jesus. I realized our God is all powerful and bigger than my problems, I believed in Him and started looking at Him instead of my problems.
I started living one day at a time, thanking Him for the things I can still do , rather than trying to worry about the future. He gave me His peace- “Peace which surpasses all understanding”.

He asked me not to worry too much about small discomforts in life, rather concentrate on Him. Now when I feel weak I take refuge in Him. I trust in His everlasting arms, so “When I am weak, then I am strong”.

Blessings and Grace

Jesus in His grace and mercy blessed me with His life, peace, joy and everything we needed. I had no clue how would I survive without working. But for last 2 years He provided for all our needs. I have no worries about the future now, I know I am safe in His hands.

To protect us God in His mercy has put a multi-layered firewall around us. The first layer is Jesus himself- sealed us with His blood, grace and mercy, surrounded by His angels. the second layer is my loving, caring and praying family. Surrounded by elders and friends who support us, encourage me and strengthens us with Word of God, their testimonies and prayers. Surrounded by an army of prayer warriors who tirelessly pray for us.

When people look at me, some of them may not be seeing the mighty God who is holding my hands. That’s probably why they wonder ‘how can he smile and be happy’.I hope more people will be able to see my savior Jesus after reading this.
When I was faced with suffering and pain, I started spending more time with God in prayer and Word of God, the greed, pride, envy, anger and unforgiveness in me, slowly started melting away- like the fat melting on fire. God is still working on me. He’s not done with me yet. I believe it’s going to be better and better day after day.

Change Your Story
You don’t have to go through pain and suffering to be saved. You don’t have to be even a Christian.
Jesus is the God of gods. He came down to the earth to save you and me. ” He himself bore our sins on the cross”, and if we confess our sins, He will forgive us our sins”. There is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
Bible says in Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

10. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
13. You will have freedom, peace, happiness, love and a blessed life. Trust Him and experience it for yourself.

Saving by Grace Prayer
” Dear Lord Jesus, I am a sinner, I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead. Come into my heart, I trust you as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus Name, Amen.”

Trust Jesus
Into your hands Jesus I surrender,
All of my fears all sorrows,
All of my strengths all my weakness.
All of my hopes all my dreams,
I commit all that I am into Your hands.
Into your hands Jesus I am trusting,
Whatever the future may bring,
Where you lead me,
I will rest within your hands.
The hands that took the nails upon that
rugged cross,
Are strong enough to shelter shield and
carry me.
I commit all that I am into Your hands.

” Lord, you have delivered me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling”. Psalm 116:8

Friend, if you are going through any challenge that’s beyond your ability to cope, submit it to Jesus. I can tell you from my personal experience that he is strong enough to carry you.
